About Me

My name is Jenny DeReis and I am co-owner and therapist at Walmsley & Validity Counselling in Prince George BC. I have worked in the helping profession for over 25 years, and as a therapist for the past 12 years. I received my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary, and I’m  registered with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I completed my Intensive Training in DBT with Charlie Swansen, author of DBT Principles in Action, and  partner with Marsha Linehan sine the inception of DBT in the 1980’s.

I have level two training in Gottman Marital Therapy and have level 4 training in Rational Living Therapy,  developed by Aldo Pucci. I received a certificate in substance use through the Justice Institute in B.C. In addition I have received training in Reality therapy and Focusing. Today I primarily counsel from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Therapy (DBT) approach. Both approaches focus on the way that emotions, thoughts, and behaviours interact together to form effective or ineffective methods of coping. DBT was developed by Marsha Linehan at the University of Washington and it’s the most comprehensive and recommended treatment for issues related to emotion dysregulation.

To learn more about DBT check out “What is DBT,?” on the front page menu.
