My name is Jenny DeReis and I am a counsellor at Walmsley Counselling Agency in Prince George BC. I have worked in the helping profession for over 25 years, and as a therapist for the past 12 years. I received my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Calgary, and I’m a registered counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
I have studied and practiced a variety of counselling approaches over the years but I’m committed to learning and practicing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). This therapy, developed by Marsha Linehan at the University of Washington, is the most comprehensive and recommended treatment for issues related to emotion regulation.
All of us struggle with our emotions from time to time but some people have intense emotions the majority of the time. While being sensitive and emotional are wonderful qualities, if your emotions aren’t managed effectively, it is exhausting and painful.
I’m excited about DBT and the compassionate, comprehensive approach it takes to teaching emotion regulation. I look forward to exploring DBT with you and sharing what I have learned in my years of counselling some pretty amazing people.
